Hey Big Sis,
Summer is almost over. We have one week left until school starts, again. I am amazed you are already going to start second grade.
We have had a busy summer filled with swim team practices and meets. You have grown, learned, and improved so much. I am truly impressed by you. This year was the first year you decided to bypass Little League, and I am grateful since it lightened our load quite a bit during the Spring season. The years prior, we spent hours after school running from the pool to the baseball field or gymnastics and cheer. Honestly, it was far too much but you handled it with grace. I was proud of you when you decided to limit your activities to prevent the inevitable burnout. It was the smart choice.
Now, here we are. We have arrived in our final full week of summer, and the cabin fever is real. You crave socialization from anyone who isn’t your two-and-a-half-year-old brother—so much so that you have decided to park your tush right next to me while I try to maintain my sanity for seven more days. I wish I could be your creative outlet indefinitely, but that won’t help you learn to cope with boredom and unfortunately, I do not have an endless amount of energy stored.
I welcome the start of the school year as I know you do. You will thrive among your peers, make new friends, and rekindle friendships set aside for the summer. Your energy will be channeled into learning and developing new skills instead of antagonizing Brother. You’ll grow and learn. All I ask is that you try your best.
So, as you start your second year, I want you to take this to heart:
Be yourself. Remember the joy you feel when surrounded by friends. Don’t forget to laugh. Climb high and run far. Read. Try new things. Most importantly, have fun.
I love you to the moon.
Love,
Mom
Hey Substackers,
How do you prepare for the return to school? Do your kids also have cabin fever in the final weeks of summer? Leave a comment and let me know!
